Part 2 (VIDEO): Shamanism, Evil Wind, and Unlocking Your Fertility

In Part 1 of this series, I mentioned that In Chinese medicine, when environmental elements cause disease, whether it’s the weather, the flu or someone projecting their anger onto you, we call this Evil Wind.

You probably don’t know that Chinese medicine began as a Shamanistic medicine. Over the years the shamanistic roots were rejected because it was considered primitive.

The practice of removing Evil Wind from the acupressure channels was an important goal of the original medicine.

You may notice when you start to feel a cold coming on that the back of your neck and upper back grow achy and stiff. There are acupoints located in this area where wind enters and leaves the body. One of these points is even called “Wind Gate”. When "Evil Wind" enters, your back and neck feel stiff and achy.

Wind isn’t always evil. In fact, these acupoints can also let in intuitive messages from the spirit world, if you will. In other words, your psychic and intuitive abilities can be heightened through these points.

However, when you catch a cold, your immune system (known as your Defensive Qi, in Chinese medicine terms) is weak and leaves these points open and vulnerable rather than protecting them from pathogens. The virus, or Evil Wind, then enters through these acupoints.

Quite literally, actual wind, the kind that blows and propels sail boats, can also weaken your Defensive Qi, giving viruses an easy way into your body.

That’s why it’s important to keep your neck covered on a cold windy day, not to sit directly under an air-conditioning draft, or sleep with a fan blowing on you. Haven’t you noticed your nose gets stuffy after sitting in a drafty spot for while?

But Evil Wind also refers to evil spirits. In fact, in the history of shamanistic Chinese medicine, some mental illnesses are attributed to evil spirits entering the person’s body. (Have you ever seen the movie, The Exorcist? Talk about some serious Evil Wind!)

But this evil energy can also be the result of traumatic experiences, negative beliefs, and just plain ol’ energetic yuckiness (yes, that's a medical term) that festers and grows inside of our physical body.

During the Shaman’s healing ceremonies in Peru, I realized the primary goal was releasing Evil Wind from the body, although they don’t call it that. They believe that negative energy is blocking physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

They say when you clean negative energy from the body, you can return to your natural healthy physical, spiritual and emotional state. By cleaning these blocks, joy, clarity, intuition, creativity and fulfillment inevitably blossom.

Negative energy is acquired from a variety of traumas, including childhood traumas, regrets from your past, ancestral wounds, and the traumas of humanity in general.

In the case of fertility, these traumas may be blocking your natural ability to get pregnant. So many of us carry various emotional traumas, like sexual abuse, sexual trauma (even if you were a willing participant), guilt and trauma from abortions, shame around your sexuality, miscarriage, surgeries or other emotional traumas that end up physically stored in your reproductive organs. These traumas take on a physical form and cause blocks in your reproductive health.

Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now and A New Earth, refers to these energies as pain bodies. He describes them as entities that lie dormant and can be reactivated within your body, causing strong ego-based emotional reactions.

We’ve identified with these traumas our entire life. And because they take on an “Evil Wind” form, they fight for survival, just as a virus or parasite takes over your system.  As you start to let go of the trauma, it tries to convince you that these negative perceptions and beliefs are true and that’s who you are. They mess with your head, those tricky little buggers!

But it’s important to remember that as long as you’re aware and conscious, YOU are stronger than any Evil Wind; the power of your mind is a force to be reckoned with!

It’s when you’re able to release them and heal, you can more deeply experience who you truly are in all your glory.

Here’a video teaching you an acupressure point that releases Evil Wind, calms you, relieves headaches, improves vision, and may heighten your intuition.
