Am I ovulating too late to get pregnant?

When you’re trying to conceive, the last thing you ever want is to finally get that positive test only to have the pregnancy end in a loss.

And while these losses occur for a number of reasons, studies show that ovulating on the later side of your cycle can increase your chances of having a miscarriage.

As a Chinese Medicine fertility expert and the creator of the Fertility Activation Method™, I know there are a few different reasons you may be ovulating later or irregularly. But first, let’s talk about what your ovulation should look like.

When should you be ovulating?

You should be ovulating around day 14 of your cycle, and while there is some variation, it’s generally not much earlier or later than that.

If you’re ovulating earlier than day 14 in your cycle, then your egg is maturing too quickly.

If you are ovulating later than day 14 of your cycle, it may be okay. For instance, one or two days late isn’t really a big deal. But if you’re ovulating five or more days later around day 19 or day 21 or even later than that, then your chances of miscarriage could increase.

Why is ovulating later in your cycle a problem?

The later you ovulate, studies show that there’s an increase in the chances of miscarriage. That’s because when you’re ovulating on the later side, it’s going to affect the health of the egg.

It shouldn’t take your egg more than 14 days to mature and be ready for ovulation. If it’s taking longer than that then the growth of the egg can be stunted.

Also, from a Chinese medicine perspective, late ovulation can be a result of stuck energy and blood flow — which can be a result of hormonal irregularities or nutritional deficiencies.

If you’re having stuck energy and blood, there isn’t good circulation to your ovaries, and that’s going to affect the ability of the ovaries to mature the egg for ovulation. The growth of that egg will be stunted, causing irregularities. And by the time you ovulate, it’s not viable or healthy and ready for fertilization.

What causes this to occur?

Your hormones support this entire process, so if the hormones are irregular then it’s going to take a while for the egg to mature and be ready for ovulation. This can affect how healthy that egg is.

If there are nutritional deficiencies occurring, then the egg’s not being exposed to the right environment. This means it’s not getting the nutrients it needs to develop into a healthy, viable egg for fertilization.

This is why, in my online program, Fertility Activation Method, I have such a strong focus on creating a healthy cycle.

The Fertility Activation Method follows a four-step method for getting pregnant in an easier, healthier, more affordable way. One of the main focuses is to make sure each step of your cycle is as healthy as possible so that you can have a healthy, viable pregnancy.
