During the hot summer months, we eat more cold foods like salads, melons, and berries. These foods are refreshing, healthy, and delicious, but in excessive amounts they take a toll on the digestive system. Cold and raw foods need more digestive energy for your body to break them down.
In Chinese medicine, the digestive system compares to a pot over a fire. If you fill the pot with too many cold and raw foods, the fire weakens, making it difficult to efficiently extract nutrients. As a result, residual fluids stagnant and create phlegm.
Phlegm builds in different areas of the body, such as the lungs, sinuses, and even the reproductive organs causing ovarian cysts or vaginal discharge serving inhospitable to sperm. I cannot stress enough how important a healthy digestion system is for reproductive health!
So how can have your cake and eat it, too? Or in this case, your fresh fruits and veggies? By drinking Ginger tea! Ginger warms up and strengthens the digestive system. With the warm water, ginger aids your digestive system in breaking down raw fruits and veggies.
Next time you enjoy a salad or a slice of watermelon, be sure to pair it with a warm cup of ginger tea. Simply throw a 2-3 slices of fresh ginger in hot water and steep for 5 minutes. If you’re dying for a cold beverage, make iced ginger tea.
